Hey Stuporfly,

Did you happen to take any photos? If so, please send them to Staffan to post. I was so close to going to the NYC show. I actually purchased a ticket, but I couldn't find a sitter for my dog (I'm 3 hours from NYC in Delaware). I thought there might be a chance that Neal Casal would make an appearance. Drats!!! I missed it. I would have loved to have been there for that. Neal is awesome! I'm sure you saw a good show. Sounds like the music really had an effect on your date, too.

I'm going to pretty much echo what Michael had to say about the Philadelphia show, from the solid support acts right through the performance by Beachwood Sparks themselves. I hadn't seen them since Cafe Du Nord in 2001, and it was so worth the wait. Neil Casal came out in the classic BWS brown horse t-shirt and sang with the band. Glorious night.

I apologize to anyone who might have had to witness my date and I making out - The music was making her quite amorous, and she wasn't really afraid to show it. She wasn't familiar with BWS until I played her some of their music a few weeks ago, and it looks like they've got a new fan for sure.

Brent said something about the band getting back together out West in a month, possibly for some dates, and - hopefully - to record some new music.

Hello All,

I had the pleasure of attending the Beachwood Sparks show at Johnny Brenda's in the City of Brotherly Love this past Thursday. What a great show, and what a great venue! Sera Cahoone and the Willowz both had solid opening sets.

The line-up for Beachwood Sparks was Chris Gunst, Jennifer Lee Gunst, Dan Horne, Ben Knight, Brent Rademaker, and Aaron Sperske. The band sounded great. There weren't any surprises in the set-list, but, at least in my opinion, the performances themselves had some new exploratory twists. The band really seems to be gelling with the added personnell.

There was a great turnout and the crowd was very into the show (always a plus), as was the band. There were some dedications as well. "You Take the Gold" was dedicated to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team, and (if my memory serves me correctly) "Old Manatee" was dedicated to "Farmer" Dave, who's absence was acknowledged, and "The Reminder" was dedicated to Pete Kinne.

The highlight for me were the extended cosmic instrumental breaks on "Sister Rose", "Something I Don't Recognize", "Once We Were Trees", and the encore finale..."New County". The closing little hoedown at the end of the album version of "New County" was converted into an extended cosmic country space jam that was just awesome! Everyone in the crowd started dancing and it was such a stellar close to a wonderful evening.

The setlist was pretty much identical to Big Sur's. Some of you may be disappointed to learn that Farmer Dave does't appear to have made it East. Having seen the Big Sur and Philly shows (which were sans FD) and the Southern California shows (which had him in the line-up) I have to emphasize that it's still the same band. They sound fantastic! You won't be disappointed at all. This is an amazing band. I've ben lucky enough to see them five times on this reunion tour (and I might drive the 3 hours to NYC tonight) and their live performance has far exceeded any expectations I had. This is one AMAZING band...

Really wish I'd been there but I'm stuck in England. Did get to see Farmer Dave play with Interpol at the Latitude Festival. I didn't think I'd see him as he isn't a full time member of the band, but there he was suited and wearing a white hat right at the front. Sounded impressive but it's a shame he couldn't join up with the rest of BWS. Perhaps he'll return one day for their comeback album? (nudge, nudge).

It's not the same band without Dave. It's a bit of a con to call it Beachwood Sparks with no Farmer Dave in the mix. Not trying to ruffle any feathers. It's just a fact based opinion. One of the main things that made the band valid was the chemistry betwen the 4 members. It's all fine and good if old friends want to get together and play again and have fun and make some money but to use the name in order to project the idea and convince people they'll be seeing the same band is a bit akin to Dewey Martin using the Buffalo Springfield name to play any old crap show at some suburban saloon or Mike Love using the Beach Boys name to play at the county fair. Had to say it. Forgive me.
